- Barrier closures - you can also get up-to-date information about barrier closures by contacting Kirkwall Police on 01856 872241. Please note that weather conditions are very changeable and review times stated on Twitter can change at short notice. For more information, contact the Kirkwall Police Station on tel (01856) 872 241.
- Adverse weather school closures - alerts include a link to more detailed information on OIC's Facebook page.
Please note that Twitter and Facebook are independent websites and the Council cannot guarantee against alerts being delayed. You don't need to join Twitter or Facebook to view alerts.
Other ways we keep you informed
- We provide school closure information to the local BBC station Radio Orkney in time for their 7.30am weekday broadcasts
- We provide information about Council service disruptions to local press (BBS Radio Orkney; The Orcadian newspaper online; Superstation Orkney) when possible during Council business hours.
- We post information about Council service disruptions onto the OIC homepage www.orkney.gov.uk when technically possible during business hours
