Orkney Islands Council
Working together for a better Orkney

Development and Infrastructure

The Development and Infrastructure Committee now combines the remit of the former Development and Regeneration Committee, the Transport and Infrastructure Committee and the planning policy and protective services element of the Planning and Protective Services Committee.

The Committee plays an important role in promoting the economic development of communities throughout Orkney.  Members also debate issues that shape the islands’ external and internal transport links as well as considering the running and development of roads, piers, harbours and air fields. The remit also includes road safety, traffic management and street lighting.

The protective services element includes environmental health, food safety, trading standards, planning and building standards, waste management, the promotion of energy efficiency, access to the countryside and the raising of environmental awareness.

  • Chair: Councillor Graham Sinclair.
  • Vice Chair: Councillor Andrew Drever.
