"Our aim is to provide high quality services in partnership with individuals, families and communities. Our task is to ensure choice, dignity, independence, rights, respect, and quality of life, and to maintain people in their own homes wherever possible. We are committed to caring for service users and staff alike." - Cathie Cowan.
Our Role
We work with people when they are most in need of support, helping them get through the difficult times in their lives.
Across our community, most people will have contact with our department at some stage in their life, either as an individual or through friends and relatives. It might, for instance, involve a friend with a disability attending a care centre, an older relative needing help to stay at home, or a child or young person in need of support or protection. We also provide support for people with mental health problems, as well as offenders, ex-prisoners and many other vulnerable people in our community.
We work closely with health and education services, the police and the voluntary sector. Our work often enables people to take control over their lives. It is tailored to suit the needs of people in our community. It respects their rights as individuals and it is responsive to changes in personal circumstances.
